The Retail Operations Supervisor supports the daily operation of the university’s retail dining and concessions areas by providing floor supervision, high-quality customer service, and hands-on leadership during peak periods. Serving as a manager on duty when needed, this role oversees staff and student employees, ensures safe and compliant food production practices, maintains accurate point-of-sale procedures, and assists with training, scheduling, and operational problem-solving. The supervisor also helps support departmental needs across Culinary Services as assigned.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Supervision and customer service for retail operations (60%)
Supervise, monitor and direct the day-to-day operations of the retail operation and concessions, giving hands on support during peak hours. In the absence of a manager acts as the Manager on Duty.
Provide high quality service to customers, which includes students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
Solicit feedback, respond to inquiries and concerns from students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Supervise student employees using a student development approach focused on leadership preparation; includes training, daily supervision, customer service, and food production.
When manager on duty, be responsible for updates to staff schedules due to unexpected and unplanned absences ensuring the most successful operation to the best of our ability.
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and training retail dining staff and student employees
Make decisions and solve problems by analyzing information and/or feedback which will result in the best solutions and success of the operation.
Ensure point-of-sale transactions are conducted correctly, educate staff on proper cash handling and settlement procedures. Act as back-up cashier as needed.
Food Production (35%)
Monitor staff compliance with the state, local, departmental and institutional policies, procedures and follow applicable local, county, state, and federal food safety guidelines to ensure foods are prepared and served safely.
Assist guests with special dietary requests by identifying needs and providing appropriate meal options.
Participate directly in food production, preparation, and service while assisting with the planning, management, and supervision of food service operations.
Supervise and be responsible for safe and effective cleaning, sanitizing, and routine maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities during scheduled shifts.
Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to the following (5%)
Answer questions, make decisions, and oversee operations in the absence of the Retail Operations Manager and Assistant Retail Operations Manager.
Assist with any other duties delegated by the Retail Manager and Assistant Retail Manager.
Provide support in other areas Culinary Services as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience in food service; supervisory experience preferred
ServSafe Certification is preferred. Successful candidates will be required to complete ServSafe Certification within one year of employment.
Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to teach and mentor professional and student staff.
Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize.
Demonstrated customer services skills with ability to effectively communicate and solve service challenges.
Function well in a team environment
Neat, clean, and professional appearance.
Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, including regular weekend and evening assignments as required by departmental needs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work under varied environmental conditions including periods of high heat and below freezing temperatures.
Ability to lift and move 50 pounds, with or without assistance
Ability to tolerate noise levels, temperature fluctuations and ability to stand for long periods of time
