Under the direction of the General Services Lead, the General Services Technician supports the monitoring, documentation, tracking, and timely response to work order requests at Saint John’s University (SJU). Responsibilities include work related to chemical and dispenser units, appliances, pest control coordination, window coverings, furniture, mattresses, equipment, and campus deliveries.
The position also manages the custodial services warehouse by ordering supplies from external vendors, maintaining inventory, and fulfilling internal supply requests for campus buildings. In addition, the General Services Technician assists with coordinating the work of outside contractors, including carpet cleaning, window cleaning, and appliance repair services.
As an integral member of the custodial management team, the General Services Technician contributes to departmental procedures, the security and stewardship of equipment and facilities, and the effective delivery of custodial services across campus.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Assist with work orders by monitoring requests, scheduling and performing repairs, moves, and deliveries, applying appropriate charges, and closing completed orders in the work order system.
Oversee custodial warehouse inventory by ordering supplies from vendors, maintaining appropriate stock levels, tracking inventory, and fulfilling internal supply requests for campus buildings.
Coordinate and support custodial equipment and supply operations, including the repair, transport, and delivery of equipment, chemicals, furnishings, and related materials used across campus.
Assist with the maintenance and servicing of custodial dispensing systems by assisting with installation, repair, replacement, and ongoing functionality of paper, soap, and related dispensers.
Assist with the installation, movement, and organization of furnishings and equipment in offices, residence halls, and classrooms, and maintain accurate furniture inventory and organized storage areas.
Assist with pest control coordination by working with external vendors, placing and maintaining pest control equipment, and responding to reported pest issues across campus.
Support maintenance and upkeep of custodial vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.
Ensure safe work practices and regulatory compliance by following required safety procedures, properly handling chemicals and equipment, using safety data information, and promoting accident prevention.
Safeguard custodial equipment, tools, and materials by monitoring secure storage areas, ensuring proper use of equipment, and supporting overall facility and asset security.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience with general equipment and/or furniture repair and troubleshooting required; experience with custodial-related equipment, furnishings, window coverings, or similar facilities equipment preferred.
Ability to use a computer for communication and departmental tasks, including email, basic document creation, and use of a work order or facilities management system.
Effective skills in time management, organization, planning, and problem-solving in a work environment with multiple priorities.
Working knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and safety practices, including proper handling and use of custodial supplies and equipment, or the ability to learn.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, guests, and vendors.
Valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license required; must be DOT certified or able to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
Ability to adjust work schedule and hours to meet departmental and University needs; standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility required based on assignments and projects.
Physical requirements:
Ability to walk frequently and climb stairs throughout campus facilities
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to safely use custodial equipment and tools, including operating machinery and handling cleaning products in accordance with safety guidelines
Ability to work from ladders and at heights of up to 20 feet, with appropriate safety equipment
Ability to perform physical tasks involving bending, kneeling, reaching, gripping, and repetitive motion
Travel requirements:
Occasional travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
