Saint Louis University (SLU, https://www.slu.edu/), a nationally recognized Jesuit research university with a thriving global footprint, invites nominations and applications for the role of executive vice president and provost (EVPP).
Building on strong institutional momentum—including recent R1 status, a $2B+ endowment, a flourishing Madrid campus, and a well-balanced portfolio of liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs—SLU seeks a collaborative, future-focused, and institutionally-ambitious academic leader to partner with the president in advancing student success, faculty excellence, and mission-driven impact.
The EVPP will lead the University in articulating and realizing its end-state academic portfolio, diversifying the learner base and learning modalities with discernment and purpose, and by pursuing select innovations that strengthen SLU's mission and market position. Within its current strategic planning initiative and beyond, SLU is focused on identifying its areas of greatest distinction; developing its unique and optimal profile as a Jesuit, R1 university; accelerating innovation to support key areas of research and teaching growth; and meeting the challenges and opportunities in U.S. higher education and the larger society. The EVPP will re-animate cross-disciplinary collaboration to meet the needs of the city and region of St. Louis, the nation, and the world—anchored in SLU’s Jesuit values and global mission.
At a pivotal moment, SLU aims to sharpen its university-wide strategy and strengthen its culture of collaboration—connecting academic vision and administrative execution to ensure that resources, systems, and decision-making processes move in concert with the University's aspirations. The new EVPP will serve as the University’s second-ranking officer charged to convene and align senior leaders across units, even where lines of reporting differ. This leader will work closely with the president to build and support a leadership team skilled in translating vision into action, embracing shared governance, and embedding institutional rhythms of strategic planning, budgeting, portfolio clarity, and shared accountability for results.
Founded in 1818 as the first university west of the Mississippi River and entrusted to the Society of Jesus in 1829, SLU today enrolls more than 13,300 students who are taught by more than 2,100 faculty across campuses in St. Louis and Madrid. The University combines a rigorous liberal arts core with graduate and professional schools—including medicine, nursing, law and business—supported by innovative research programs and more than $65 million annually in sponsored research. SLU attracts students from 96 countries, with international enrollment exceeding 3,100. Its NCAA Division I athletics program adds vibrancy to campus life and enhances its national reputation. The University's annual operating budget is more than $600 million, and its endowment exceeds $2 billion. SLU is guided by Catholic and Jesuit values while welcoming people of all faiths and traditions or no faith background.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and trusted partner—an academic leader of stature who combines intellectual distinction with operational acumen, and who inspires confidence through integrity, humility, and a collaborative spirit. This individual will bring the ability to convene across boundaries, galvanize teams toward shared purpose, respect shared governance, and translate aspiration into measurable progress.
