Saint Joseph’s College is excited to welcome a new Academic Advisor to its Online Advising team. This role plays an integral part in promoting online student retention by managing enrollment status for a caseload of students; monitoring online students’ academic progress and providing motivational support; advising online students on program requirements, course registration, and administrative policies; and working with students to develop, track, and achieve their academic goals.
We are seeking a compassionate, positive, and self-directed team player who excels at time management, communication, and organization. While the role is remote, the team is strongly integrated with our Sebago campus community. Therefore, applicants must live within a reasonable distance of Standish, Maine to allow for regular, encouraged on-campus work opportunities.
Essential Responsibilities:
Providing proactive outreach regarding course selection, registration, and deadlines
Managing course enrollment information and confirming appropriate tuition payment
Processing course and program-related administrative processes in the database
Liaising with Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Program Directors
Connecting students with relevant College resources
Reviewing students’ degree plans, course descriptions, and program requirements
Advising on best practices for assignment submission schedule and time management
Using available resources to contact students regarding progress concerns
Maintaining student contact history through documentation of all communication
Advising students on all applicable policies
Updating student contact history in database to reflect students’ intentions and goals
Connecting frequently with students via phone, text, Google Meet, and/or email
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Proficient use of data, reports, and computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Google Platform, and Excel
Strong display of oral and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize multiple demands and follow through on all tasks to completion
Comfortable with having compassionate, professional, and motivating conversations
Willingness to be a team player and maintain a positive attitude
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience in adult or online education, advising, and/or customer service preferred
Schedule and Structure:
This role reports directly to the Director of Online Advising and works closely with a team of other Academic Advisors. Rarely, some weekend work may be required. This is primarily a remote position, although some initial training will take place in person, with continued opportunities to work on campus. Attendance at occasional on-campus events is encouraged and may be required or requested.
