The Department of Art and Art Education at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, invites creative individuals to apply for a Lecturer of Art (Non-Tenure Line) position starting in Fall 2026.
We are looking for a faculty member who will bring enthusiasm, expertise, vision, and critical engagement to our students and the department. Preferred areas of expertise or experience may include Art Education, Foundation Art Studio courses (Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design), Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture. We also seek candidates with experience in Digital Art, Graphic Design, Digital Media (both taught through the Communication Studies Department), and Marketing. Familiarity with art history and theory, as well as contemporary art world practices, is preferred.
Primary teaching responsibilities may include a variety of courses, such as Art Appreciation and Studio Art classes (including 2D Design, Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Printmaking, Photography, and Painting), Digital Art, Graphic Design, and Digital Media (offered through the Communication Studies Department). The teaching load is a 4-4 load, with the opportunity to teach summer courses.
Suitable candidates will have a degree in Art, Design, or a related field (e.g., Ph.D., M.F.A., M.A. in Art, Design, or a related field, with a terminal degree preferred). Must possess evidence of high-quality teaching experience at the college level. Evidence of creative practice and its critical reception, including evidence of participation in juried and invitational exhibitions, is required.
