The Athletics Department at Saint John’s University invites applications for a full-time (0.75 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Assistant Football Coach - Offense/Recruiting.

The Assistant Football Coach-Offense/Recruiting supports the success of the football program by coaching and mentoring student-athletes, with a focus on offense and recruitment. The position plays a vital role in promoting the college's values, academic mission, and commitment to NCAA Division III athletics while actively integrating the Benedictine Values into team culture.

Working closely with the Head Coach, the Assistant builds strong relationships with players and the campus community while supporting student-athletes’ academic and personal growth. All athletic staff are expected to uphold the philosophies and guidelines of the college, the MIAC, and NCAA Division III, aligning with the institution’s educational goals.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

 

Responsibilities

Coaching and Instruction

  • Coach and develop the players, including technique, schemes, and film study.

  • Assist with game planning, scouting opponents, and implementing offensive strategies.

  • Assist in the design and organization of high-quality practice sessions, while following MIAC and NCAA regulations.

  • Serve as mentor to student and other assistant coaches.

  • Assist in preparing the team for competition with the goal of competing at the top of the MIAC.

  • Follow all SJU, MIAC, and NCAA rules and guidelines to include successful completion of the NCAA Division III rules test.

Recruiting 

  • Assist Head Coach in developing and implementing a comprehensive recruiting strategy to attract high-quality student-athletes in line with NCAA Division III regulations.

  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate with prospective student-athletes through various channels and in conjunction with the university admissions team.

  • Build relationships with high school coaches, summer league coaches, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Meet with prospective student-athletes to share information about the football program and the college, in coordination with the Head Coach.

Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master’s degree preferred

  • Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid per NCAA rules            

  • Demonstrated successful football coaching experience, collegiate level preferred

  • Proven football student recruitment experience.

  • Effective football coaching, supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to positively represent the football program with internal and external constituents.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including leading the team through a training session, demonstrating techniques and skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible-varied schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • A working knowledge of the mission and rules governing MIAC and NCAA Division III athletics.

  • An understanding and appreciation for the character and success of Saint John’s University Athletic Department and its programs.

  • Ability to interact with the monastic community and the greater Saint John’s community as an integral part of the administration and staff.

  • Ability to project a positive image of service.

  • Ability to acquire an understanding of the character and mission of Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict.

  • Willingness to maintain a high level of competence. Discreet judgment and confidentiality are expected at this level of responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including leading players through training sessions, demonstrating techniques and skills

  • The role requires mobility across campus facilities and indoor/outdoor competition venues

  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and transporting items weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to varying temperatures, inclement weather, and outdoor elements.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular travel for games, recruiting, and other program-related activities
