The Transportation Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a part-time position of Bus Driver.

The Transportation Department's mission is to provide safe, friendly, courteous, prompt, and cost-effective transportation for students, faculty, and staff. The Bus Driver positions is responsible for providing transportation for the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University for academic purposes via car, van, and bus. This is a part-time, 9-month position with varying hours. Drivers must be able to work rotating shift of days, nights, and weekends. Occasional trips to the Twin Cities.

This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and is represented by Teamsters Local 638.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

 

Responsibilities

Transportation Needs

  • To provide transportation of passengers via car, van, bus for CSB and SJU for academic purposes.

  • Provide transportation to off-site student events which may include commute to Minneapolis/St. Paul or other areas.

  • Provide driver training for incoming drivers.

  • As essential staff, may be required to report for duty during campus closures or emergencies, at the discretion of the Director of Transportation.

  • Follow policies and procedures set forth by the CSB Transportation Department.

Preventative and General Maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance during pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections helping to maintain all vehicles and equipment as needed or directed.

  • Inform and train all college employees, students, and faculty on the safe and proper use of college owned vehicles and equipment.

  • Test for the safe and proper operation of all vehicles and equipment after repairs.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Possess a valid class B CDL with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction. Each applicant must provide a copy of their driving record at the time of interview and are subject to annual review of your driving record.

  • Possess working knowledge of state and federal transportation rules and regulations.

  • Must complete and receive a successful DOT physical and this position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol random testing throughout employment.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Possess communication skills necessary to work effectively with all members of the college community.

  • Ability to operate many types of equipment and in a safe manner and to instruct others in their uses.

  • Ability to carry out job functions in a safe manner, which may require receiving additional training and using personal protective equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds.

  • Ability to handle weather extremes on a daily basis.

  • Ability to work with and or around hazardous chemicals in a safe manner.

  • Must be able to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and physical. Employee may be subject to DOT drug and alcohol random testing during employment.

  • Must be able to pass yearly DOT physical.

Travel Requirements

  • Daily travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.

  • Occasional travel between the campuses and the Twin Cities.
