The Experience and Professional Development Office at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a full-time 0.92 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Assistant Director.

The Assistant Director provides student career coaching and educational programming for students on a broad range of career development topics. This role collaborates strategically with academic departments and programs—particularly those focused on environment, sustainability, and analytics—to support student success. In partnership with the Senior Associate Director of XPD and fellow career coaches, the Assistant Director helps design, promote, and implement key career development initiatives. This position empowers students to connect their aspirations with real-world opportunities and translate the value of their liberal arts education into meaningful personal and professional outcomes. The Assistant Director will help students explore, do, reflect, and connect.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

 

Responsibilities

Career Coaching (50%)

    • Connect students to opportunities allowing them to explore interests, values, and skills related to academic major(s) and career choices.
    • Guide students in identifying future goals and envisioning possible career directions.
    • Link students with resources that support informed decision-making about careers and academic choices.
    • Direct students to experiential opportunities such as job shadows, internships, community-engaged learning, and fellowships.
    • Facilitate student reflection on their experiences to foster meaning-making and connection to future goals
    • Use assessment tools to invite students to reflect on who they are and how that connects to future decisions.
    • Coach students in understanding and articulating the value of a liberal arts education.
    • Partner with XPD staff to create educational and promotional content (i.e. video, visual, and written tools and educational materials) for partners and students related to career development.
    • Leverage AI-powered tools appropriately to support student’s career development.
    • Support the education and training of Experience Hub Student Ambassadors and Student Career Mentors.
    • Contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of XPD systems and access points to ensure effectiveness and student engagement.

Collaborative Partnership Building (50%)

    • Build and maintain strategic relationships, collaborating with key campus constituents to create opportunities that impact student career development.
    • Provide training to external audiences (employers and alums) on the developmental career needs of college students.
    • Partner with Employer Engagement staff to identify, plan, and execute fairs and opportunities specific to environment and analytics industries
    • Identify and collect student success stories for use in office-related marketing and communication
    • Support departmental initiatives by working with faculty and staff to compile and assess XPD outcomes data.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and to stay current with trends in the field.
    • Actively and thoughtfully participate in visioning and strategic planning that advances XPD’s position.
    • Partner with the Center for Global Education (CGE) and Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholars (OURS) to engage students on behalf of the Experience Hub.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred, with preference for related field at either degree-level.
    • Knowledge of and experience with career development theory, best practices, and trends, preferably related to higher education settings.
    • Proven experience in building and managing strategic relationships.
    • A theoretical and practical understanding of experiential education and high impact practices in higher education preferred.
      • Ability to articulate the value of liberal arts education.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences through individual meetings, group presentations, and digital content.
    • Demonstrated creativity in developing innovative, student-centered engagement strategies that are responsive to a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and needs.
    • Ability to make informed, strategic decisions grounded in professional knowledge, experience, and innovation.
    • Articulates a broad understanding of XPD’s mission and the impact of strong collaboration

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role
    • Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 10-15 pounds

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Regional travel required. Travel may occasionally include student supervision. Occasional evening and weekend hours required in support of events.
