POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Providence seeks a mission-driven and experienced Director of Residential Life to lead residence life initiatives in alignment with the university’s Catholic identity and the newly implemented Communities of Character model. The Director will oversee residential programming, student conduct processes, and staff training while ensuring that all aspects of residence life foster student growth in virtue and holistic development.

This position is integral in shaping a residential experience that promotes compassion, integrity, justice, excellence, and dignity—the university’s Core Values. The Director will be a transformational leader in fostering a mission-driven, character-focused residential experience, ensuring that students are formed in virtue, leadership, and service. This is a full-time, exempt position with on-call responsibilities. Some evening and weekend programming is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership for residential life in alignment with the university’s mission and the Communities of Character framework.
  • Supervise and train professional and student staff in virtue formation, ethical leadership, and habit-building within residence halls.
  • Develop and implement residential programming that supports students’ faith, intellectual growth, and personal well-being.
  • Serve as a student conduct officer, utilizing Maxient and other student life software to maintain a just and educational conduct process.
  • Oversee student housing operations, including residence hall management, occupancy, and conflict resolution.
  • Strengthen community-building initiatives to foster belonging and engagement among residential students.
  • Collaborate with Campus Ministry, Mission Integration, and Student Engagement to provide integrated programming that fosters spiritual and character development.
  • Partner with Career Services and Counseling to ensure students receive holistic support for their academic and vocational discernment.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, Title IX, and student welfare standards, including emergency response procedures.
  • Assess student learning and engagement within residence halls and adjust programming based on measurable outcomes.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Theology, Pastoral Studies, Divinity, Student Affairs, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in higher education, preferably in-residence life or student affairs.
  • Proficiency with student life software such as Maxient.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic higher education and mission-based student development.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff, especially in forming student leaders.
  • Experience handling student conduct and conflict resolution with integrity and care.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
