The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John’s University (SJU) Libraries invite applications for two full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible Learning and Research Librarian positions in the following liaison areas:

  • Position 1: Science, Health Sciences, and Data Literacy
  • Position 2: Social Sciences and Data Literacy

As members of the Learning and Research Team, the Learning and Research Librarian is responsible for promoting student-centered experiential learning and student success. Key duties include offering outreach and instruction to assigned academic areas, collaborating with faculty to develop engaging and inclusive learning experiences, and partnering with Libraries colleagues and the Instructional Technology Team to advance students’ information literacy and transferrable skills.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

 

Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

    • Collaborate with instructors, other librarians, and the Instructional Technology Team to design innovative student-centered and experiential learning experiences.
    • Teach diverse learners in the classroom and in one-on-one consultations, modeling best practices from instructional design and the science of learning literature.
    • Grow the Libraries’ data literacy services and offerings across the curriculum.
    • Actively contribute to institutional, Libraries, and Learning and Research Team strategic goals and priorities.
    • Develop and maintain tutorials, research guides, and online learning objects.

Subject Liaison

    • Build strong working relationships with assigned departments and other campus stakeholders.
    • Proactively communicate about Libraries services and resources. 
    • Develop and maintain relevant subject expertise to meet student and faculty research needs in assigned areas.

Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                

    • Master’s degree from ALA-accredited program or equivalent international education credential. 
    • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in academic librarianship, instructional design, and/or higher education, particularly within an undergraduate liberal arts context.
    • Teaching or training experience that can be applied to information literacy/metaliteracy instruction.
    • Familiarity with or interest in supporting hands-on, project-based learning.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a team-oriented, solutions-focused environment.
    • Ability to model a growth mindset, practice lifelong/continuous learning, and successfully adopt new pedagogical approaches, tools, and technologies. 
    • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.  
    • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all individuals.   
    • Significant education or experience in a relevant academic or professional field preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role.
    • Requires teaching classes and attending meetings in person and being generally available to work on campus Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. The Libraries’ flexible work policy allows for some remote work or flexible scheduling with your supervisor’s approval.  
    • Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 10-15 pounds.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Regular travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
