The Athletics Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a part-time (0.20 FTE), benefit eligible position of Head Dance Coach.

The Head Dance Coach at the College of Saint Benedict is responsible for leading all aspects of the CSB Dance Program, including oversight of both the Competition Dance Team and Club Dance Team. Key responsibilities include budgeting, ordering equipment and apparel, coordinating travel logistics, planning and conducting practices, assisting with choreography, and preparing teams for performances and competitions.

The Head Coach is expected to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, provide expert guidance in dance technique and strategy, and serve as a positive role model. This role plays a crucial part in promoting personal growth, team success, and fostering an inclusive, supportive team environment.

The season runs August–April, averaging 8–10 hours per week, with approximately 4 hours of prep work per week from May–July.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

 

Responsibilities

    • Recruit prospective student-athletes through outreach and hosting tryouts.
    • Collaborate with student captains to organize schedules, travel logistics, and equipment/gear needs.
    • Foster an enriching and inclusive co-curricular experience for student-athletes, enhancing the College of Saint Benedict’s reputation.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes, supporting their personal and professional growth.
    • Ensure compliance with all college policies and procedures for club teams as outlined by the Director of Club Sports.
    • Plan and oversee practices, performances, and competitions, attending at least two practices per week and all performances and competitions, coordinating with the assistant coach(es).
    • Assist in choreographing dances for both the competition and club dance teams.
    • Provides guidance, support, and mentorship to assistant coaches to ensure consistency in choreography, instruction, and team development.
    • Address team conduct issues and manage parent communications in consultation with the Director of Club Sports.
    • Work with team captains and the Director of Club Sports on policies, fundraising, budgeting, travel, equipment purchases, team webpage updates, and space coordination for practices, competitions, and tryouts.
    • Manages parent relations/communications on behalf of the team
    • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

    • Prior experience in dance coaching or significant personal involvement in dance.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of dance techniques and best practices.
    • Strong leadership, communication, budgeting, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to mentor and support college-aged students, fostering growth and development.
    • Self-motivated with a focus on achieving results.
    • Exemplifies sound judgment and maintains strict confidentiality, appropriate for the responsibilities of the role.
    • A valid driver's license is required. A driver's license check will be conducted, and new hire will be required to complete a defensive driving program.
    • Ability to complete required safety trainings upon hire (concussion, bloodborne pathogens, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • The role requires mobility across campus facilities and indoor/outdoor competition venues.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • As needed local and national travel based on team performance/competition sites.
