JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Office of Campus Ministry at Christian Brothers University seeks an Associate Director of Campus Ministry who promotes the Catholic and Lasallian values of Faith, Service, and Community through a wide range of activities and events. Reporting to the Director of Campus Ministry & Mission, the ideal candidate will be:

  1. a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ who prioritizes prayer and sharing the Gospel through word and deed
  2. a servant leader committed to both direct charity and long-term social justice
  3. a community builder who cultivates hospitality, virtue, and authenticity

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accompaniment, Pastoral Care, & Formation [12hrs/week]
    1. Foster appropriate relationships with students and colleagues, thus modeling Christian living, practicing pastoral care, and cultivating an atmosphere where all feel noticed, named, and known
      1. Includes serving as a Spiritual Companion for students
    2. Form students to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and effective servant leaders by hosting intentional, professional trainings covering a range of topics (ex. time management, running a small group, etc.)
    3. Host events that allow students from diverse backgrounds to interact and develop meaningful community (ex. intramural sports, board game nights, off-campus hikes, etc.)
    4. Attend students’ events to support them and their efforts

 

  1. Service & Justice [10hrs/week]
    1. Develop a robust service program comprised of partnerships with local organizations to appeal to a variety of interests
    2. Work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to integrate service with reflection and education, especially in light of Catholic Social Teaching, the Corporal Works of Mercy, and the Lasallian Principles
    3. Promote service opportunities through digital platforms and other avenues to ensure visibility and engagement
    4. Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and create reports on the success of CBU’s community service
    5. Oversee PB&J Day, the Buc Stop Community Pantry, and other service-related events and programs

 

  1. Liturgy, Worship, & Prayer [8hrs/week]
    1. Facilitate the celebration of Catholic Sacraments, liturgies, and devotional prayers, including Sunday Mass, daily Masses, and other special liturgical events (ex. Ash Wednesday, Baccalaureate Mass, etc.)
    2. Collaborate with the chaplain and student leaders from various denominations to ensure meaningful, engaging, and unifying worship
      1. Recruit and train Liturgical Ministers
    3. Manage the good order of Stritch Chapel and other prayer spaces

 

  1. Campus Ministry Administrative Tasks & Representation [10hrs/week]
    1. In partnership with the rest of Campus Ministry, plan, execute, and assess all activities in light of the Gospel and the team’s goals, including (but not limited to):
      1. Seasonal and ad hoc prayer services, OCIA and Sacramental Preparation, Flingin’ Friday, S’more Faith, Coffee with Christ, on- and off-campus retreats, evenings of vocation/discernment, social events, workshops, speaker series, etc.
      2. Preparing student leaders to plan, execute, and assess Bible studies, Life Groups, Praise & Worship, or other initiatives connected to Campus Ministry
    2. Partner with other departments and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to promote the goals of Christian Brothers University and the pursuit of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful
    3. Maintain the Campus Ministry office and other Campus Ministry spaces
    4. Participate in university events as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholicism
  • Bachelor's degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in collegiate campus ministry or a comparable field
  • Willingness to appropriate the Lasallian Charism professionally and personally
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to connect with students and provide relevant, holistic formation
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and act hospitably toward all
  • Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business periodically
  • Ability to sing or play an instrument (preferred)

 

Work Environment:

  • This position will be based on a university campus, requiring flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • The functions of the position will require some amount of time sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying, and other movements may be required.
