OVERVIEW: Operate and oversee a specialized program to help prevent injury and improve the athletic performance of all student-athletes with emphasis on Women’s Basketball.  Collaborate with our high-performance staff to ensure that the department philosophy is based on scientific testing protocols. Data is provided to athletic trainers and coaches to support the physical wellbeing of all student-athletes and done in a drug-free environment.  Responsible for compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Collaborate with the staff on design and implementation of safe and effective strength training, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and flexibility programs according to pre-season, in-season, and off-season schedules for all student athletes with specific attention to women’s basketball, utilizing scientific principles of human performance, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.  Supervise and monitor team and individual strength training and conditioning conducted in the three high performance facilities.   Provide motivation for women’s basketball student-athletes during supervised strength training and conditioning workouts.  Develop and enforce all high-performance facility policies and procedures.  Direct and orient new women’s basketball student-athletes on all aspects of team and individual needs.  Provide support for special training requests from individual student athletes.  Assist athletic training staff with individual rehabilitation protocols.   Attend all home and away women’s basketball games.  (65%)
  2. Track and record the physical conditioning performance progress and capability of women’s basketball student-athletes through the utilization of technology and software programs. Work closely with the staff in translation and analysis of all results of testing information to help all student-athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers in the prediction of injuries and of potential athletic performance.  (15%)
  3. Collaborate and coordinate with staff the use of scientific technologies and sports science within the arena of high performance.  Research, educate, and implement any new technology and changes in sports science to the entire strength staff and throughout each of the three high performance/strength and conditioning facilities.  (10%)
  4. Provide security for the RFDC high performance facility.  Plan for cleaning and repairing all high-performance training facilities.   Prepare the annual budget proposal for equipment and facility upgrades and new equipment purchases.  In conjunction with the staff, develop the ordering and purchasing of new high performance equipment for all three facilities.   (5%)
  5. Seek and acquire additional professional knowledge through maintenance CEU’s, attending professional seminars, conferences, reading professional journals, books, and articles, while maintaining all necessary certifications and licensures.   Track and monitor the professional development and maintenance of CEU’s for all high-performance coaching staff.   (5%)

Education and Experience

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Human Performance, or other related field from an accredited institution required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one to three years of collegiate or professional experience as a head strength coach (or its equivalent) working in an NCAA Division 1 co-education program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant certifications: ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist), AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America), ACE (American Council on Exercise) or comparable
  • Strong leadership and motivational abilities
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Competent computer literacy skills
  • Advanced experience with TeamBuildr, Perch, Hawkin, and Kinexon.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Teamworks and Outlook.
  • May be required to travel to campus during inclement weather.
