Saint Joseph's College of Maine is hiring for the per diem position of Groundskeeper!

Position Description:

The Groundskeeper plays a crucial role in maintaining the outdoor spaces of our educational institution, ensuring that the grounds are safe, attractive, and conducive to learning. This position involves a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall aesthetic and functional quality of the campus environment. The Groundskeeper will be responsible for the upkeep of lawns, gardens, and other landscaped areas, which directly impacts the experience of students, staff, and visitors. By utilizing various landscaping tools and equipment, the Groundskeeper will help create a welcoming atmosphere that promotes outdoor activities and community engagement. Ultimately, this role is essential in fostering a positive image of the institution through well-maintained grounds and facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in groundskeeping or landscaping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in horticulture or landscape management.
  • Experience with operating heavy machinery and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Mow and maintain lawns using lawn mowers and other equipment to ensure a neat appearance.
  • Perform pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and aesthetics.
  • Utilize front-end loaders and other machinery for landscaping projects and debris removal.
  • Apply weed control measures and maintain flower beds to enhance the visual appeal of the campus.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the grounds to identify maintenance needs and report any issues.

Skills:

The required skills for this position, such as proficiency in using lawn mowers and weed eaters, are essential for the daily maintenance of the grounds. Knowledge of pruning techniques and landscaping principles will enable the Groundskeeper to enhance the beauty and health of the campus flora. Familiarity with front-end loaders and chain saws will be necessary for larger landscaping projects and efficient debris management. Frequent driving is a part of the role, as the Groundskeeper will need to transport equipment and materials across the campus. Overall, these skills contribute to creating a safe and inviting outdoor environment that supports the educational mission of the institution.
