WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The Faculty of Education at St. Mary’s University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Indigenous Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  The successful candidate will be offered a choice of teaching or research streams.  Both streams involve service to both the department and university, while the research stream includes developing and sustaining a program of scholarship. We are seeking an applicant who is committed to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  The successful Indigenous candidate will be expected to work closely with existing faculty and sessional instructors and to engage with a wide network of Elders and Indigenous knowledge keepers. Their primary role will be to prepare educators committed to reconciliation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

APPOINTMENT DATES: July 1, 2025, negotiable.

The successful candidate may choose between two workload streams: the workload teaching assignment for the Teaching-Research-Service stream is normally eighteen (18) academic credit hours (six, 3-credit courses) per academic year and the workload assignment for the Teaching-Service stream is normally twenty-four (24) academic credit hours (eight, 3-credit courses) per academic year.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Progress toward a doctorate or equivalent experience as an Elder or Knowledge Keeper; preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. with demonstrated indigenous focus related to teaching excellence, and/or research activities.
  • Experience in the postsecondary education sector
  • A B.Ed., or equivalent, OR strong track record of work in K-12 schools
  • Engagement with Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous curriculum, or Indigenous pedagogies to inform research and teaching in education
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with a range of Indigenous communities, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership to further the Faculty’s commitments to reconciliation, Indigenization, and relationship development
  • Willingness to respect the institution’s Catholic mission and identity
